Many children worry about making friends and fitting in. Sometimes they do things that they wouldn’t normally do, just to fit in and be one of the gang. Here is a short and sweet story to share with your child about what to do to enjoy school and make friends. I am sharing a Storybird story written by Grace Hunter. Seven Ways To Survive School What do you think about this story? Do you have any other tips to share?

Does your child hate Math? Do you hate Math? Children are quick to pick up the attitudes and values of people around them, especially their parents. In order to help your child excel in Math, you first need to inculcate the right attitude towards Math. Even if you don’t particularly enjoy Math yourself don’t worry, you can still help your child. All young children enjoy learning new things. It is fun to learn to dress yourself, to walk, to run, to ride a bicycle, to help out in the kitchen, to help Dad in the garden. However difficult a task is, they enjoy trying and trying and trying till they get it right. When they get it right, it gives them a great sense of satisfaction. You must bring back that can-do spirit when it comes to Math. What’s the best way to do this? Play with your child. Play games that also teach Math concepts. Use flash cards to encourage repetition and aid memory. Challenge your child to improve on his or her previous score. Here are 2 simple ideas to help you get started right away: Numbers and Counting Here is a simple game to help your child [...]

Act like nothing is wrong Pay no attention to him and continue doing whatever you were doing. This is hard to do when everyone else is staring at you and feel embarassed but it is necessary. When children misbehave in public, it is very tempting to give in to him just to make him stop. But that’s the wrong thing to do because your child would have learned that misbehaving in public gets results so he is likely to keep on doing it. Do not try to reason with your child or lose your temper when she is in the midst of misbehaving. She won’t be able to hear you when her emotions are running wild. The best course of action is to do nothing and don’t react to the misbehavior. Do something unexpected When you do something unexpected, your child will stop his actions and try to figure out what you are doing. For example, when he acts out, you start laughing, really laughing hard. Your child will stop immediately and try to figure out Why is mommy laughing? Is mommy laughing at me? This only works if you do something truly unexpected. That’s the fun of [...]

Kids love a challenge. If you ask a kid to memorise Math facts over and over again, they will fall asleep. But if you get them to challenge each other, they love it. Especially when they win! Use card games to change their attitude and get them to love Math. Here’s the game. First deal out the cards to all the players. 2 to 6 players is ideal. Place the cards in a stack face down in front of each player. Each player takes his top card and opens it at the same time. The player with the higest answer or number wins. A picture card is the highest. The winner takes all the cards in that round. The players then play another round. If there are 2 or more highest answer, the players fight by playing Scissors, Paper, Stone to decide the winner of that round. For an easier game, use only the answer cards. For a harder game, use only the question cards. The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner!! Yay! Play with friends. Play in the class. It’s a fun way for kids to get [...]

Children who cannot cope well turn into emotional zombies. Like a zombie, they have no fear…no fear of punishment, that is. And it shows in their behaviour – they go out of control. They misbehave in school. They misbehave at home. They refuse to follow instructions. They are irresponsible, you cannot rely on them. No amount of nagging seems to help. No amount of threats seem to work. Trying to stop their tantrums is like trying to hold back a zombie: IMPOSSIBLE. Like zombies, they live in their own world, never noticing anyone else. They don’t seem to connect emotionally with anyone. How did they become a zombie? Did you make them into a zombie? As parents, we often feel that we can mould our children. That we have the power to turn our children into high achievers: doctors, scholars, lawyers, maybe even the Prime Minister. Like our computer, we feel that children are just waiting for us to program them. With the right input our child can do what we want them to do. So we do our part by organizing their world – do homework, take art lessons, piano lessons, enrichment classes, etc etc… – with [...]

I created a card game to help children get used to the terms ‘more than’ and ‘less than’. The game is a simple one which students can play to get lots of practice understanding these two Maths concepts. Watch the video. Play the Hunt and Match game. This is a fun game that requires a sharp eye and quick hands. It’s perfect for playing with your elementary school children. I created the cards and the game as a way for parents, teachers, students and others to have fun, play and learn together. This is great for students who finish their work early to have fun while waiting for rest of the class to finish. Students also learn to cooperate with each other as they play together. Students can also come up with their own rules and make up their own games with these cards. The cards are only available from http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Math-Concept-More-Than-Less-Than. This game can be also be played with these sets of cards: - http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Addition-Flash-Cards-Game-Butterfly-Theme - http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Flash-Cards-Addition - http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Number-Tiles-for-Math - http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Anagram-with-answers Share your views. How do you play the game?

This is a fun game. Start a chain reaction and watch the atoms exploding in a riot of colors. Be patient while the game loads. This game is created by SHARFAH. Aim of the game: To start a chain reaction and explode as many atoms as possible. In each level, you must explode a certain number of atoms to move on to the next level. INSTRUCTIONS: Click anywhere to initiate the reaction, then sit back and watch it grow. As more and more atoms enter the “reaction area”, they explode, leading to a chain reaction. Math Game; Memory Game

Get the game here : http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Flash-Cards-Addition Flash cards make it easy for kids to learn. This set of flash cards come with answers. You can print out the answers at the back of the sum or print the sums and answers separately. For best results, print in colour on glossy photo paper of 200 grams. Cut out the cards. Here is a really fun way to play this game with your child. Put all the cards in a jumble on the table. Have the players stand around the table. Shout “Go!” – the players must grab as many sum and answer sets as possible. The winner is the one who has the most cards. Players can only pick up one card at a time. This helps in whole brain learning as it makes use of colour, picture, movement, excitement, speed and fun. For children who are just learning to add, use the cards in a traditional memory/concentration game. Place the cards face down on the table. Players then take turns to open two cards at a time. If the cards match, the player keeps the cards and go again. If the cards don’t match, it is the next player’s turn.
Download this game from my store at TeachersPayTeachers. Watch the video below to learn how to play. The best way to bond with children is to play with them. Playing together builds bonds and creates trust. Playing is also an effective way to reduce school and work stress. Children often prefer to play computer games. These games often do not require much personal interaction. It is much better for parents and children to play card or board games. It is definitely more fun. It is a great way for children to unwind from homework and school stress. When they win at the game they will feel good about themselves. By playing together, families often see each other in a different light. Here is a simple memory game that is anyone can play. The rules are simple and it can be easy or deceptively hard. Watch the video to learn how to play. Download this game from my store at TeachersPayTeachers. It makes a terrific gift too!
